Baseball field will be dedicated to Derek Jeter in Kalamazoo

After being inducted into the high school hall fame in 2007, Derek Jeter will soon have the high school field named after him.
So basically, Kalamazoo waited 16+ years before inducting Jeter into their Hall of Fame. What were they waiting for? Are there so many good players in Kalamazoo that they had to wait to see how Jeter's career panned out?
We are also learning that it took a board to approve the naming of the field, but there are still some logistical matters that have to be addressed.
How hard is it to put Derek's name on a plaque and place it next to the field? Are we to believe that this needs to go before a grand jury of Jeter's peers? Give me a break.
We talked to one of the board members who was holding a brown scroll and wearing a white powdered wig for some reason.
"We shall congregate amongst ourselves and debate the naming of the field. Once we have reached a final verdict, we will signal to our onlookers sending a puff of white smoke through the chimney. If it is a black smoke, you know that we haven't reached a majority. We think we are more important than we are and want to drag this out as long as possible. This will keep us in the news and make our useless boring lives some what relevant." said Ron Hancock while holding a feathered pen.
We hope they get the field in better shape before the ceremony.
